NARRATIVE:             Sheriff Gary Hofmann is reporting that on August 9th, the Office of the Sheriff conducted a joint operation with the Queen Anne’s County Drug Task Force in northern Queen Anne’s County to address citizen complaints of suspected drug trafficking and other quality of life crimes.

 

At 1830 hours Dfc. Rickard and Deputy Draper observed two subjects acting in a suspicious manner in Pinkney Park located near Crumpton. Contact was made with the two subjects and further investigation resulted in the seizure suspected crack cocaine individually packaged for street level sales from one of the subjects  (identified as David D. Hicks). Hicks, who has a prior history of felony drug distribution was taken into custody and subsequently held at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond. The suspected crack cocaine and $30 was seized and placed into evidence. Charges are pending on the second subject.

 

At 1945 hours detectives of the drug task force observed  the driver of a Cadillac make several traffic violations and followed the vehicle until a marked unit arrived to make the traffic stop. The Cadillac was stopped in the 400 block of Pine Tree Road, Chestertown (QA). As the deputy approached the car, the driver threw a black plastic bag from the car and drove off. The Cadillac drove about a mile on Pine Tree Road, failed to negotiate a curve ending up in a ditch. The driver identified as Daryll Lamont Brooks was taken into custody. A ten month old female was located unsecured in the rear seat. The child was checked by paramedics at the scene and then released into the custody of a grandmother who had responded to the scene.

 

The bag that Brooks had thrown was recovered and found to contain over 100 grams of suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana and a working digital scale. Brooks who has a felony drug charge history was taken into custody and held by a District Court Commissioner on a $350,000 bond at the QA County Detention Center. In addition to the CDS, the 2002 Cadillac Coupe-de-Ville and $145.00 cash was seized.
