Assisting Personnel: Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division
Synopsis: On November 4, 2016 the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to an unattended death in Grasonville, Maryland. Investigation revealed that Brandon Thomas Roe, had died from a suspected heroin overdose.
Members of the Queen Anne’s County Drug Task Force responded to assist and were able to identify several possible suspects as the person who may have distributed or facilitated the distribution of the heroin to the deceased. Task Force investigators also received several additional from members of the public and Roe’s family members.
Using the information at hand Task Force members began an in-depth investigation and with the assistance of prosecutors from the Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed thousands of cell phone records, conducted multiple suspect interviews and ultimately identified Nathan Joseph Johnson (24) as the primary suspect in the distribution of heroin that is suspected of causing Roe’s overdose death.
On May 24, 2017 Johnson was indicted in Queen Anne’s County Circuit Court for Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Heroin in Roe’s death.
On June 2, 2017 Johnson was arrested after being stopped in Anne Arundel County on unrelated charges. Johnson was transported to Queen Anne’s County, Maryland where he was served his charges on June 5, 2017. Johnson is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
