The Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff is scheduled for a site-based assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
Access to the CALEA standards can be obtained by contacting the Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff's CALEA Accreditation Coordinator, Eric Wilson, at 410-758-0770 ext. 1923. As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments via a public access portal located at CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Portal.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence and this new approach works to further that objective.
IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
