Queen Anne's County is rated as the safest county to live, work, and play on the Eastern Shore of Maryland! Crime statistics report an overall downward trend in crime based on data from 15 years.

Based on this trend, the crime rate in Queen Anne's County in 2025 is expected to be lower than in 2019. The crime rate was lower than the national violent crime rate average by 78.4%. Property crime rates were lower than the statewide crime rate average by 89.9%. The number one complaint in our county is speeding!

  • The Eastern Shore Crisis Hotline can be reached by calling 888-407-8018. You will be connected to a trained crisis phone counselor who will provide confidential support and resources at no cost. If necessary, a mobile crisis team will come to you to offer support. The Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff accepts the safe disposal of both prescription and illegal drugs 24/7/365 - no questions asked. Residents can turn in these items for destruction at our office, located at 505 Railroad Avenue, Centreville, MD or by calling our non-emergency number at 410-758-0770. No sharps please.

  • The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provides resources for child sexual exploitation survivors, caregivers & families. To report child sexual exploitation call 1-800-843-7678 or visit their CyberTipline. 
  • Take It Down is a free service provided by the NCMEC that can help remove or stop the online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit images or videos taken while you, or someone you know, was under the age of 18. This service is anonymous and happens without the image or video ever leaving your device or being viewed.
  • If you had nude images taken when you were over the age of 18,  that have been posted online, visit StopNCII.org to receive help getting them taken down. StopNCII is a free tool designed to support victims of Non-Consensual Intimate Image and Revenge Porn Abuse.
  • Learn step-by-step how to have explicit content of yourself removed from various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, Discord, Reddit, Google, and more by visiting this link.

  • Dial 9-8-8 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. This resource is free, confidential, and available 24/7. Follow the prompts to reach Veteran and Youth specific resources.
  • MD211 is the state's comprehensive health and human services information and referral system. They can be reached 24/7/365 online or by dialing 2-1-1.
  • The Maryland Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Mental Health Zip Code Resource Search is available online.
  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7/365 treatment referral and information service for individuals and families facing mental health and/or substance use disorders. They can be reached by calling 1-800-662-4357 or by texting your zip code to 435748.
  • The Veterans Crisis Line can be reached by dialing 9-8-8, then pressing 1, texting 838255, or by chatting online, regardless of if you are enrolled in VA benefits or health care.

Youth and Teen Specific Mental Health and Suicide Resources

  • The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached by by calling or texting 988 or visiting their website. This resource is free, confidential, and available 24/7.
  • The Crisis Text Line can be reached by texting HOME or HOLA to 741741 or by visiting their website to reach a live crisis counselor. This resource is free, confidential, and available 24/7.
  • The Trevor Project is a non-profit suicide prevention organization that provides crisis support and services for LGBTQ + youth by texting HELP to 678678, by calling 1-866-488-7386, or by visiting their website. This resource is free, confidential, open to everyone, and available 24/7.
  • The Youth Suicide Prevention Toolkit provides resources for teens, parents, and school staff to support youth who are experiencing suicidal behaviors or seeking help.
  • If you are in immediate danger you can walk into any urgent care or hospital or simply dial 911. You will not be in trouble for seeking help.

 

Student & School Safety

  • The Maryland Center for School Safety, Safe Schools Tipline is an anonymous and free reporting system for students, teachers, parents, and the general public to report any Maryland school or student safety concern. Tips can be submitted online or by calling 1-833-632-7233. Emergency situations should be reported to law enforcement immediately.
    • Concerns may include but are not limited to: Firearms, Sexual Assault, Bullying, Dating Violence, Alcohol & Drug Use, Mental Health, Gang Violence, Fighting, Discrimination, Planned Parties, Truancy, Vaping, Terroristic Threats, Vandalism, and more.

  • Did you know that roughly a third of U.S. homes with children have guns? In fact, an estimated 4.6 million kids live with unlocked, loaded guns. Learn ways you can keep your kids of all ages safe.
  • It is the responsibility of caregivers to ensure that household guns are securely stored to prevent children, grandchildren, friends or other children and teens from gaining access.
  • Maryland's Child Access Prevention Law states that a person may not store or leave a loaded gun in a location where the person knew or should have known that an unsupervised child would gain access to it.
  • An unsecured firearm can put everyone in a household at risk. The decision to harm oneself or others can happen in a matter of minutes. Review firearm storage practices, learn signs of a crisis, and educate members of your household with the Firearm Safe Storage and Youth Suicide Prevention Guide.
