INCIDENT: Armed Robbery of Person

DISPOSITION: Held Without Bond at Queen Anne’s County Detention Center
DETAILS: On 01/08/18 at approximately 7:17 pm Deputies from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office along with allied law enforcement agencies responded to the Royal Farms Store at 6502 Church Hill Road in Chestertown, MD. A 911 call had been received from a female stating that she had been in a vehicle with a man identified as Laight Phelps and they were located at the fuel pumps. She reported that Phelps had a loaded shotgun and was making threats to shoot people. Upon arrival, Deputies were able to quickly locate and detain Phelps in the parking lot. Deputies made contact with the female victim inside the store where staff had hidden her. The victim advised that Phelps had picked her up in Church Hill and had driven them to the Royal Farms. The victim explained that while Phelps was driving, he grabbed a shotgun from the back seat and placed it next to her. The victim stated that Phelps made threats that ultimately led to the victim giving her money to him. Phelps was subsequently arrested at the scene and the shotgun was recovered. The incident is being investigated by Detective Jeff Lewis of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit. INCIDENT: Fraud/Forgery

LOCATION: 3100 blk Main St., Grasonville, Md. 21638
DETAIL: QACSO units made contact with the victim. He advised that several of his checks had been fraudulently passed, in various other states, with a total over $16,000. The checks were fraudulently made using his name and account number. The suspect(s) forged his name. The victim was made aware when a person called him in an attempt to verify one of the fraudulent checks. He immediately contacted his bank and discovered the other fraudulently passed/forged checks. The checks had been passed during the timeframe of 1/2/18 to 1/4/18. This case is actively being investigated. Anyone with info., contact QACSO

INCIDENT: Motor vehicle crash

LOCATION: 1400 Block of Duhamel Corner Rd, Sudlersville MD
VICTIM: 32yo male of Sudlersville
DETAILS: Deputies were dispatched to the 1400 Block of Duhamel Corner Road, in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, the driver stated he was driving on Duhamel Corner Rd when he lost control of his vehicle due to the roadway being covered with ice. The vehicle was described as a 2005 Chrysler passenger car, bearing a Maryland registration. The vehicle was disabled and removed by the owner. There were no injuries as a result of this crash.
