INCIDENT: Car Jacking / Theft / Assault

LOCATION: 400 Block of Grasonville Cemetery Road, Grasonville, MD
NARRATIVE: Victim, Male (30’s from Wye Mills) was approached by two African American males and one of them displayed a handgun. The victim was forced into the trunk of his vehicle and was taken to another location in Grasonville where he was able to escape from his assailants and call for help.
The suspects then fled in the victim’s vehicle and was spotted by a deputy a short time following a broadcast of the incident on Grasonville Cemetery Road. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, it pulled into the parking lot of the Chester Wye facility. The two occupants exited the vehicle and fled into a nearby wooden area. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered in the car.
As additional units responded efforts were attempted contain the suspects and an intense search was conducted by police, followed by a second search by SWAT members assisted by MSP Aviation. Despite being spotted by hunters at one point, the suspects were not located.
Follow-up investigation has been assigned to Det. Chase Armington of the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit.

Sheriff Gary Hofmann is advising that late this morning there was a reported attempted carjacking in Grasonville. The suspects were two African American Males (No Further Description). When a Deputy attempted to stop the suspects, they bailed out of a vehicle near the Chester Wye facility on Grasonville Cemetery Road and fled into a nearby wooded area.
Reportedly a weapon was displayed and reports indicate a weapon has been recovered. It is unknown at this time if additional weapons are involved. The victim was not reported to be injured.
Numerous police units from the Sheriff’s Office, MSP and DNR remain in the area (1230 Hours) attempting to contain the suspects while a search is being conducted on the ground assisted by MSP Aviation.
Citizens are being advised to be alert and cautious and to report any suspicious persons / activity to the Sheriff’s Office @ (410) 758-0770 or by calling 911.

INCIDENT: ASSAULT with Intent to Murder

BRIAN L. TAYLOR (27) of Stevensville
SUSPECT: UNKNOWN MALE (NFD)
NARRATIVE: A small group of individuals were in front of an abandoned trailer in the 400 Block of Grasonville Cemetery Road with a barbecue grill. An unknown male approached on foot and fired several rounds from a shotgun striking three of the individuals.
The three victims were first treated at Queen Anne’s Emergency Room a short distance away from the scene. Two of the victims were then flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with the third being transported there later by ambulance. All three victims are males in mid-20’s to early 30’s and have non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives assisted by MSP Aviation, Crime Scene techs and K9’s remained on the scene for several hours working the scene and attempting to develop a suspect.
This morning police presence has been increased in the Grasonville area and a School Resource Deputy has been assigned to the nearby elementary school.
UPDATE:
After reviewing the investigation of the above incident submitted by the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit, States Attorney Lance Richardson requested criminal charges for Marcus Lamar Black (19) of Stevensville.
Black, who is currently incarcerated on an unrelated matter, is charged with the following:
Attempted 1st Degree Murder (3 Counts)
Attempted 2nd Degree Murder (3 Counts)
Assault 1st Degree (3 Counts)
Assault 2nd Degree (3 Counts)
Reckless Endangerment (3 Counts)
A detainer has been filed with the Detention Center he is being held at and the Arrest Warrant will be served in the near future.

NARRATIVE: One of the victims called reporting his mailbox being knocked off its post during the night. Canvas of the neighborhood resulted in locating an additional ten residences with damaged mailboxes. Areas included Monroe Manor Road, Shi Lane, Larch Place, Cloverfields Drive, Petinot Place and Kimberly Way. Damages were estimated to be over $1000.

NARRATIVE: Deputies responded to the residence for a domestic assault. On arrival they met with both subjects who reported they had been assaulted. Ms. Jones stated her hair had been pulled, been pushed to the ground and her purse was knocked off of a table. Mr. Clough stated he had been struck in the groin with a cane, that Ms. Jones had jumped on him, and been struck on his arm. He also stated she had thrown his laptop and iPad on the floor and had been stomping them.
Ms. Jones was placed under arrest and removed from the residence. She was processed and charged with assault. Mr. Clough was also charged on a Criminal Summons for assault.

NARRATIVE: Store Security reported that they had stopped a 35 year old female from Chester as she was attempting to leave the store with unpaid for clothing items valued at $82. She had been released by the store personnel prior to the deputy arriving. Theft charges were applied for with the District Court issuing a criminal summons for Crystal Ann Braun. Service of the Criminal Summons is pending.

DATE / TIME: 11/28/2013 @ 0901 Hours
LOCATION: 115 Blue Jay Court, Stevensville
NARRATIVE: Deputies responded to the Cracker Barrel parking lot for a domestic. On arrival the driver of a Chevrolet van was complaining of neck and back issues after a Nissan passenger car had backed into the side of the van. Paramedics were on the scene treating the man.
Deputies then met with the occupants of the Nissan and learned that a female passenger and the driver of the van were separated and had been for an extended time. The Nissan occupants advised they were parked and saw the van drive by and then returned stopping behind the car blocking it in. The van driver exited his vehicle and started to yell, curse and make threats to harm them. At that time the Nissan driver backed up to get away and struck the van causing minor damages. Witnesses at the scene gave similar statements.
The driver of the van was taken to the Emergency Room in Grasonville. Charges are pending.

NARRATIVE: Deputies responded to the residence after it was reported that two subjects were arguing over a cell phone call. Both subjects claimed they had been assaulted. One of the parties agreed to leave and both were advised of their options thru the court system.

Prescription Round-Up: Agencies joined together in Queen Anne’s County
On November 12 and 14, 2013, the Office of the Sheriff, MD State Police Centreville Barrack, Queen Anne’s County Department of Health Alcohol/Drug Prevention Office, the Drug-Free Queen Anne’s Coalition, the Sudlersville Fire Department and the Kent Island Fire Company participated in a county-wide Prescription Round-Up program. Law Enforcement, the Health Department’s Prevention Coordinator and Drug-Free Queen Anne’s Coalition’s dedicated volunteers made this venture a success.
The purpose of this project is to collect unused and/or expired medications to get them out of the households to prevent unlawful or accidental ingestion and to protect our environment from improper disposal. Please note that the Office of the Sheriff is a permanent year-round collection site for unused and/or expired medications. Residents can drop of their medications, no questions asked.
During our fourth annual collection in November 2013, we collected 75 pounds of unused /expired medications and a container of sharps (needles). This amount does not include the amount of medication collected at the Office of the Sheriff for this calendar year. We have until the end of the year to collect more medications. Our first year, in 2010, we collected total of 162 pounds of unused /expired medications and sharps. Our second year, 2011, we collected a total of 195.8 pounds unused /expired medications and sharps. And, in our third year in 2012, we collected a total of 109.8 pounds of unused /expired medications and sharps. Thus far, we have collected a total of 542.6 pounds of medications.
We are very grateful to the various agencies, and the many volunteers for helping with this annual event. We truly appreciate the community members who took the time out of their busy schedules to bring their unused and/or expired medications to the collection sites for proper disposal!
