INCIDENT: Burglary Investigation/Search Warrant

SUSPECT: David Warren Chilcote Sr., 66yo male of Essex, MD
DETAILS: Between September 2017 and May 2018, a series of burglaries occurred in the Stevensville, Chester, and Grasonville areas of Queen Anne’s County. The burglaries took place in small retail businesses. In all of the burglaries entry was gained through a window or door, which was pried open. Once inside, the suspect would go in the business and steal money. Some of the retail establishments had video security cameras. The cameras showed an older white male in the place of business. In some instances, the suspect would cover his face with a bandana or a ski mask.

Members of the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff Criminal Investigation Unit worked with allied agencies; together they were able to discover that the suspect was a serial burglar who had burglarized commercial businesses in Queen Anne’s County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, Frederick County, Baltimore County, and Hartford County as well as other locations in Pennsylvania. The suspect was identified as David Warren Chilcote Sr.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Unit were able to develop probable cause for a search and seizure and arrest warrant for Chilcote Sr. On 06-14-2018 at 6:00 AM members of the of the Criminal Investigation Unit as well as members of the Baltimore County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Police Department, Howard County Police Department and Belair Police Department executed a search warrant at Chilcote’s home at the “60 blk” of Wiltshire Rd. Essex, MD. Chilcote was taken into custody without incident. A search of the home revealed evidence that linked Chilcote to burglaries in Queen Anne’s, Anne Arundel, Howard, Baltimore, and Harford Counties.

Chilcote Sr. was charged with burglaries in Queen Anne’s County that took place between 2017 and 2018. He also faces nine counts of second-degree burglary, nine counts of fourth-degree burglary; four counts of attempted second-degree burglary, four counts of attempted to fourth-degree burglary, nine counts of theft under $1,000, and thirteen counts of destruction to property under $1,000. Chilcote Sr. is currently being held on no bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

“One of our priorities at the Office of the Sheriff is striving to keep Queen Anne’s County one of the safest counties in Maryland. I’ve made it clear to everyone, that if a crime is committed in Queen Anne’s County, we will use every available resource to apprehend those responsible for breaking laws and prosecute those people responsible to the fullest extent of the law,” added Sheriff Gary Hofmann.
