INCIDENT: THEFT

LOCATION: 221 Outlet Center Drive, Queenstown
VICTIM: Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren Polo
ARREST: Janisha Freensiah Challenger (21) of Hyattsville, MD
Female (17) of Landover Hills, MD
CHARGE: Theft / Theft Scheme
NARRATIVE: Deputies responded to the Outlets for a reported shoplifting from Tommy Hilfiger. On arrival Deputies were advised that a group of three women with five children (ages 5-8) came into the store and scattered about the store. As they left the store the sensor beeped, an employee stopped them and one of the women picked a shirt from a cart and purchased the item. The group was located in the Carter’s Store and as deputies entered the store the females got into the cashier line and attempted to make a purchase, however their credit card was denied.
The group was questioned about items from Tommy Hilfiger and denied taking anything. When advised the video was being reviewed, the oldest female stated that one of the kids may have taken something.
Deputies located their vehicle and several items were observed. A search of the car resulted in locating 6 Tommy Hilfiger shirts valued at $220.44 and a Giant bay with 17 Shirts from Ralph Lauren Polo valued at $337.83. None of the women could produce sales receipts for any of the items.
After viewing the video, two females were arrested – Janisha F. Challenger and a 17 year old for Theft. Both were transported to the Sheriff’s Headquarters for charging documents and processing. The 17 year old was referred to Juvenile Services and released to the adult who was not charged. Janisha Challenger was later released by a District Court Commissioner on her own recognizance.
