INCIDENT:           Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

DATE / TIME:      10/22/2014 @ 1928 Hours

LOCATION:         Cox Neck Road @ Jones Road, Chester, MD

DECEASED:          Joshua Paul Tompkins (26) of Chester, MD

NARRATIVE:        QA Emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Cox Neck Road involving a black Ford Explorer that had skidded off the roadway into a ditch and then overturned into a utility pole. The driver (sole occupant) was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation of the accident indicates wet roads and the driver using a cell phone at the time of the accident. A statement was taken from a subject who reported she had been talking with the deceased when a crash and horn could be heard. Other possible factors present are the driver having a suspended license and alcoholic beverage odor present.  The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore.

The Sheriff’s Office reconstruction team is conducting further investigation into the crash. At this time the estimated speed of the vehicle has not been determined.
